Breaking boundaries in the automotive industry, supercars are concept cars that surpass currently available technology with unbelievable horsepower and unbeatable top speeds. But some cars go beyond just being “super.” The top one percent of all supercars, the elite of the elite, are known as hypercars. Hypercars are a speed-demon’s dream machine. As part of the supercar elite, they all come with a pretty hefty price tag that not only accounts for but emphasizes the insane power under the hood.
More and more automakers are starting to develop their own turbocharged concept cars, especially since the November 2015 release of Apex: The Story of the Hypercar, an insightful documentary showing off the awesome power, outrageous speeds, and intricacy of the design of these vehicles.
The almost-unfathomable power of hypercars is becoming more of a reality within the auto industry. Here is a hypercar list including some of the fastest cars in the world today and the ones to come in the near future, ranked from lowest to highest horsepower. You’ll be amazed how much horsepower some of these hypercars have!
700-HP McLaren F1: A Future Supercar From the Past
It appears that the McLaren F1 is ready for a comeback. The new hypercar is expected to debut in 2018, and the projected price for this redesigned, reinvented speed machine, which is being referred to inside McLaren as the “hyper-GT,” is $2.6 million. Detailed specifications are scarce at this point, but the company claims that the McLaren F1 will have 700 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 200 mph.
875-HP Porsche 918 Spyder
The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the more cost-effective hypercars out there. Mind you, “cost-effective” is all relative, since it is still a whopping $850,000, but it’s a steal compared to other hypercars that are priced at more than $1 million. Even with this lower price point, though, this supercar is incredible. Equipped with a V8 engine with both front and rear electric motors, the 918 Spyder can go from 0-62 mph in as little as 2.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 214 mph.

963-HP LaFerrari Hypercar
This unique hybrid-powertrain carbon-fiber hypercar is equipped with a 6.3-liter V12 engine that gives it a reported top speed of 217 mph, though the manufacturer claims that it can go higher, and it can go from 0 to 62 mph in less than 3 seconds. Only 499 units of this supercar are going to be manufactured, and the expected LaFerrari price tag is a cool $1.5 million.

1,100-HP Koenigsegg Agera XS
Revealed at the 2016 McCall’s Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Center, this hypercar is specifically designed for the U.S. market. Even though the powertrain is based on its predecessor, the Agera RS, this hypercar is capable of so much more. Equipped with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an incredible seven-speed paddle-shift transmission, this powerful machine has 1,100 horsepower, and its lightweight build makes it only 3,075 pounds.
To match its incredible awesome engine and power, the Swedish automaker opted for a paint job in beautifully bold orange, known as Karosserie Orange. In addition to the diamond-dust metallic finish, the carbon-fiber transparent strip in the center makes this Koenigsegg supercar really stand out from the crowd.
Koenigsegg has admitted that only 25 of these supercars are going to be produced, adding another level of exclusivity to the hypercar, as it will be very hard for anyone to get their hands on one — especially since 10 of them were preordered before the first reveal.
1,500-HP Bugatti Chiron: One of the Fastest Cars in the World
The Bugatti Chiron is out of this world when it comes to its power and speed. With an 8.0-liter, quadruple-turbocharged W-16 engine, this hypercar produces 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. Even more astounding is its ability to go from 0 to 62 mph in less than 2.5 seconds. Bugatti claims that their hypercar has a jaw-dropping top speed of 262 mph but is also capable of pulling 1.5 g in lateral acceleration. The Bugatti Chiron is the epitome of an unadulterated speed machine, and its $2.6 million price tag is indicative of that.
1,300-HP Aston Martin AM-RB 001
Joining forces with Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin is setting out to build the fastest car in the world. While we do not know every detail about the car’s specs as of yet, what is known is that the joint venture is expected to produce only 99 to 150 vehicles, 25 of which are for track use only. The new Aston Martin supercar, called the AM-RB 001, is set to be a 2.0-liter four-banger with three electric motors capable of producing a ridiculous 1,300 horsepower. It’s set to be so powerful that there will be technology in place to monitor the driver’s skill level and determine if the driver is allowed to unleash the car’s insane power and hit its unreal top speed. The automaker claims that their hypercar will easily compete with the likes of Bugatti and Ferrari, which, as you know, produce some of the fastest supercars in the world.
